collecting palladium

Where: Nura's quarters
What: Nura gives Tony some palladium (and nothing else).
Warnings: no warnings.

After cutting the feed with Tony, Nura sets to work collecting the jewelry. Nura has to do some digging before she collects half of the palladium crusted jewels that pile about her room's floor. She pours them into an empty laundry hamper and places it near the top of the stairs that lead downstairs. She descends the steps when she first hears the rapping of knuckles on a door, whilst straightening her silk wraps. As she reaches the landing, she figures that Tony would have to help her collect the rest, as it'd taken her until Tony arrived to pick out just the first half. And she hadn't yet checked the last five days' jewelry piles.

She opens the door after the second knock, waving an arm and then outstretching it to the stairs. "This way. Watch your step."

Tony follows the woman inside the house. They were all so similar inside. He moves up the stairs. "So how much palladium do you think you have?"

Nura nudges aside a tiny topaz pile by her door and then gives a good shove. It swings open, but clacks in a stop with something blocking its swing back path behind. Nura makes a "come on" gesture to Tony and outstretches her arm to the room in a sort of announcing manner.

"Enough to build a small palladium house." She teases, but the palladium piles are indeed large.

He raises his eyebrow at that. "The only problem with jewelry-grade palladium and the palladium I need, is that it's not the right isotope. If it's Palladium-104 we might be able to pull a neutron off and make it into Palladium-103 which would be the second best isotope for my reactor."

He does follow her in, though, and notices just how big the pile is.

Nura thinks a moment, then says, "If your denizen is an alchemist, it may be possible to convert the isotopes."

"He's not an alchemist. I do have the chemistry and physics knowledge necessary, just not the equipment," he said.

He thought for a moment and created a simple centrifuge, only to have it blow up in his face.

Nura holds her belly, laughing, shoulders shaking. Tony's fumbles remind Nura of Querl's classic lab trips and slips. "Uh, that's pretty obvious from just looking at ya', Mistah."

"That's been happening a lot more here then it ever did back home," he said.

[naltorian]

She takes a handkerchief from her pants pocket and uses it to wipe away the smudge of smoke and grease from his face. "Uh huh. I believe you." It's just like being back home and cleaning Lyle's face of debris and grease while Querl grumbles over another failed experiment in the background.

It was a woman like Pepper who knew just what to do to take care of him. "You're taken, aren't you?"

[naltorian]

Nura nods. "Going on four months now. Two months back home." She really wishes the Island would have given her back her ring.

"Couldn't be lucky enough to find another woman like Pep that was single," he said, giving her a smile.

She made a quirky grin and tilted her head, hands going to rest on her hips. "I hope Pep isn't short for Pep-Talk."

"Nah, Pep is short for Pepper, my PA turned CEO turned girlfriend. You remind me of her," he explained with a chuckle.

[naltorian]

"Awww, you have a girlfriend. That's so swee--swee--swee--oh no..."

She clamps her hands over her mouth with a panicked expression. Right there. She feels a story bubbling to her lips. A sappy, sticky taste in her mouth. It's a doozy.

"Mmmnff!"

Oh no, he backs away slightly with a panicked expression, but not for the same reason. The expression on Nura's face is so similar to another expression.

"Uh... you aren't going to be sick, are you?" he asks. He has no idea how to deal with sickness.

[naltorian]

Nura shakes her head, scrambling to find her bed. She grabs a pillow and stuffs it to her face, muffling the story that comes out.

He looks a bit relieved at that, at least she wasn't going to be sick. But then, why is she having this problem. He tilts his head to the side as if trying to decide if it would be wise to ask.

Eventually it is too much, and Nura's arm muscles spasm, the pillow dropping, and her mouth opening.

What came out was:

He looks bewildered. Why was she suddenly telling him the story of Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves?

"A story?" he asked.

She begins to launch into the story, much to her utter distaste. Unable to close her mouth of her own will, Nura pulls a paper scrap from her pants pocket and a pen and quickly writes something down, then shows it to Tony.

'I CAN'T STOP!!!'

He considers his options for a moment. And even though he has a girlfriend who he didn't want to cheat on. And even though he knew she was taken. There was only one thing he was willing to try.

So he grabs her by the shoulders. "Sorry," is his only warning before he kisses her. It's purely to try and get her story to stop. Figuring that if her mouth was otherwise occupied it would work.

Nura wasn't expecting Tony's methodology in stopping her story-vomit to be by kissing her. She's really not comfortable with the situation, including the fact that she is happily married, misses her husband's lips, and also because Tony just tastes...wrong.

But he's trying to help. So she waits until her story is silence, then puts a hand against his chest and gives a shove back, remove his lips from hers. She turns her head away with a disgruntled expression, eyes squeezed shut.

"...don't ever do that again, please."

He parts away easily having only done that to help her since he was trying to do the monogamy thing with Pepper. It was rather difficult, though, since there were so many beautiful women in the world.

"Agreed. So compulsive storytelling?"

[naltorian]

Nura wipes her lips off on the back of her arm. "Yep. I got stuck with the storytelling character. She has to tell a story, one after another, or else she loses the interest of her particular audience and loses her head."

"So, we'll gain traits of these characters we're stuck with?" he asked.

[naltorian]

Nura nods. "Unfortunately. From what I've seen so far, you could bloat each time you eat sweets, or your hair will hit the floor if you're from the tower."

He presses a hand to his chest where he can feel his hear beating, just to the left of that hole in his chest where the Arc Reactor goes. He knows according to the story, the Tin-Man doesn't have a heart. He had just been getting used to emotions, he didn't want to lose them.

[naltorian]

Her eyes follow his arms and when he puts a hand over his heart, concern blooms. "What is your character? They should have told you when you first arrived."

"The Tin-Man from the Wizard of Oz." He sounds uncertain, which is a bit strange from Tony Stark.

[naltorian]

Nura can already imagine, thanks to her rampant imagination, that being the Tin-Man isn't going to a walk in the park for Tony. "That is an interesting character."

"Interesting is one way to put it," he said. "They already, symbolically, took my heart from me."

[naltorian]

She looks to the hole at his chest and feels her stomach lurch. "What exactly was inside that compartment?"

[gold_titanium_man]

"My miniaturized Arc Reactor, the fact that I'm not dying right now is a miracle, since the reactor was powering an electromagnet keeping microscopic shrapnel from ripping my heart apart," he said.

[naltorian]

She bends a bit to examine the socket closely. "If that is true, then why are you not writhing on the floor in pain? If the Rulers took your reactor, that may mean they put a hold on the shrapnel through another method." She lifts her chin, eyes going to Tony. "Most likely, magic."

"Yeah, I rather trust in science then something iffy like magic," he said.

[naltorian]

"What is it with scientific geniuses and their allergies to magic. You'd think you'd give the improbable a chance by now." She folds her arms, huffing a little. She isn't annoyed with Tony, just herself. For somehow being a beacon to attract such situation.

[gold_titanium_man]

"Magic defies all scientific laws. It goes against all those things that form the basis of our understanding of the universe. I'm not denying it's existence, because magic is just science that we haven't worked out yet, but until I figure it out, I rather not put my trust in it," he said.

[naltorian]

He sounds like Querl, only Querl's denial is more vehement and embittered, while Tony's is far more logical. "You sound like you've dealt with magic way before this place."

[gold_titanium_man]

"Not really, but there are things that SHIELD's dealt with which are similar," he said. Nope, he didn't make it a regular habit to brake into SHIELD's "secure" databases, it was all JARVIS, who just couldn't help but share. "Things which defy explanation in accepted scientific reasoning."

[naltorian]

"So basically," she rolls her wrist, amused. "You're in denial."

[gold_titanium_man]

"And happily so," he says with a smirk. "Magic will just have to deal and conform."

[naltorian]

Nura rolls her eyes, then surveys her room. "We'll see how long that lasts. But, c'mon. We should start at least trying to remedy your problem."

[gold_titanium_man]

"Yeah, probably a good idea. So, if we're going to turn some of this paladium into the correct kind we're going to need some things," he said before thinking up a notepad and pen and starting to list things.

[naltorian]

Nura arches a brow at the Imagineering. "You really imagine things into existence?"

[gold_titanium_man]

"If it works, it's kind of like JARVIS, U, and DUM-E except faster and more unpredictable," he said.

[naltorian]

"If I only had a recorder ..." She shrugs her shoulders, then turns to her piles and piles of treasure. "Let's get started. As before, I already started sorting types, so why don't you look through the sorted piles and I'll get back to sorting the unsorted."

She puts her hands on her hips. "I figure we'll collect more paladium this way."

He nods in agreement and moves to the sorted piles looking through the paladium containing jewels for ones that would work best.

Nura kneels down by her mess of a pile and begins picking up clunky jewelry after clunky jewelry, tossing aside the unneeded over shoulder and dropping the paladium trinkets to her right.

Tony was making a small pile next to him, guessing at the weights and how much of the paladium he needed could be made out of what he was choosing. He paused every now and then to make a note on the notepad he imagined up.
