I Want My Money Back!
Character/s: Renne; anybody
Time: Sunday, August 14 -- Midday
Location: Arcanarum; The Forest's Edge
Summary: Renne's rather sick of the headaches that have thus far blocked his biological responses. This amid the stench of magic is enough to make him roil! So...he's out to do a little exploring, find material for a proper cane.... And maybe produce a little mischief.
Warnings: None really, though there is some language. Open to all, of course.
The headaches had persisted for...how could he calculate time? Not sure he wants to try answering that question right now, Renne dons his "suit of armour" in at least some attempt to protect himself from the evils of Magic and begins on his way. Just where he intends to go is up for debate since you cannot very well find your way in the dark without a tool.
Perhaps...
Having at least an idea in his little head, the stubborn, bratty little bluething ventures carefully through the odd little magic-ridden town and to, eventually, its edge. He's not fond of the slightly damp ground but the still-moist air isn't so bad. First things first: Acquire material that isn't magic-soaked to fashion a proper cane. Re-learn walking upright (That shouldn't be too hard, should it?)
And finally: Figure or find out why these damnable headaches of his persist!

Thus, the early afternoon finds Minato a short ways outside of town, in a clear spot near the edge of the forest, running through various exercises with his sword. When he had arrived, of course, he had first paid his respects to the sword - not out of superstition or anything like that but because long before he'd returned to Iwatodai and actually had to rely on weapons to save his life, his iaido instructor had taught him that the sword, although it was in truth naught but a tool, was worthy of respect. It was worthy of those extra few moments of reflection and acknowledgement, because it was powerful, as a weapon, as a tool, as a symbol.
He wondered, as he performed the obeisance, if the old man remembered him, the quiet, troubled kid in foster-care next door, with the fascination with swords. (He'd always been grateful to the man for taking the time to help him, to give him something to channel his restlessness into.) He wondered, as he straightened and slipped the scabbard into his belt, if the old man were even still alive. Not that it really mattered now. But even so, his thoughts continued to drift as he began to work his way through the kata.
And now, further into the afternoon, Minato is still just letting his thoughts drift aimlessly, as he continues to shift through exercises, some actual real forms and others modified from strength-and-speed-building exercises he'd learned while on the kendo team in high school.

The sounds catch Renne's eerily sensitive ears soon enough. Although he's not much for Human contact -- his opinion of Humans in general is quite low currently -- his curiosity outweighs that. That curiosity grows, mounting into something that overrides his plans almost entirely.
He'd heard blades wielded in battle or at a sparring match and once or twice, he'd wielded one himself. Not that he had been good at it, mind, but he'd gotten the job he had to do, done. His nature had been, all his life, the one thing Renne himself could rely on.
And yet, his curiosity begs for more knowledge. Begs for further wisdoms, perhaps even a way to protect himself from further harm...
Harms of any kind.
Such are his thoughts as the oddity crawls across the ground toward the sound of such movements as these. Soon enough, a scent assigns itself to the sound. He sniffs...is it Human? Renne sniffs again, flicking out his tongue to try and be sure of what this is.
Renne may not make a sound other than his careful navigating but his skin might give him away. A mild flash of chromatophores sends a thin tiger-stripe of bright-sky blue across his face.

But in any event, it isn't until he spins around, ready to slash at an imaginary foe approaching from behind, that he catches sight of an approaching blue -- something? And Minato freezes, staring, unsure if maybe this is another denizen or if it's a creature from the forest. Slowly, after a moment or two, Minato shifts position, changing his grip on his sword a little, just in case this is a creature from the forest, though as he stares, he finds himself doubting that idea. For one thing, the blue creature is coming from the wrong direction, and for another, gut intuition tells him that this newcomer probably isn't a threat.
Still, Minato remains wary, his dragon's tail flicking back and forth, its fins flexing a little in unconscious response to his edginess. He's not frightened, but he is uncertain. (Perhaps the reptilian or fishlike nature of this tail is responsible for any confusion over whether Minato is human. After all, he was temporarily a large serpentine dragon not all that long ago.)
"Who or what are you?" he calls out after a moment. It seems like a good first move.
no subject
He's quick to turn the question around upon replying. Crawling a little further into the open, the oddity's head ducks down just a touch. His ears flick forward, keen on listening to everything around him but he doesn't react to visual cues in the least. If anything, it's scent and sound he's after.
A second or two later, his skin gives off another bluish flash down the length of his body in an almost jaguar-spotted pattern. He's curious but forever wary and honestly, he really hopes he's not encountering another Human.
no subject
"My name is Minato Arisato," he says, a little unsure if Renne is asking for his name or if the creature is just as unsure about what he is as he is of it.
no subject
Chirp. Crawling close enough to get a real scent, the Renne leans in a bit to give a curious sniffing of this 'Minato', at about ankle level. Hmm...Most odd, that. With a trill, Renne's ears give a twitch-flick backward, then straight up.
Just don't hurt him too badly for murdering name pronunciations...
"Wha-t yeu is? Is yeu Hew-mahn? Wha-t yeu do?"
He refers of course, to the swishing sounds he'd followed in order to investigate. Renne's often too curious for his own good but hopefully it won't land him into trouble....this time.
no subject
He nods once to the second question, tail flicking again. "I'm human, though this place seems to want to turn me into a dragon..." But he isn't quite sure what Renne means by 'What you do?' so he doesn't answer that, figuring if it's important, Renne will rephrase it or ask again.
no subject
He's curious. Although he'd raised an abandoned dragon hatchling at one point in his life, turning from one creature to another is usually supposed to be consented to. ...Right?
Puzzling, that. Mentioning things that are puzzling..
"Wha-t yeu do? Yeu ma-ke saownd...Li-ke Wooh! Wooh!" He's terrible with onomatopoeia but his mock-swishing sounds are backed up by a hand/paw ineptly trying to mimic a sword's handling. He knows the sound of blades moving but no, he cannot wield one himself to save his life.
no subject
But then Renne is asking about the sounds he made, and at the swishing sounds and gestures, Minato finally gets it - or at least gets what Renne is asking (though he thinks the gesturing and such is a little weird). "Oh -- I was practicing."
no subject
That's his first admittance to something, simply that he can't see but at times, he doesn't like saying it outright. Illogical yes, but true. Flicking his ears again, the curiosity is evident in his voice upon the next query.
"Wha-t yeu do Prrrack-tiss? Is yeu Wahrrr-orrr?"
no subject
"I'm... I guess I am a warrior of sorts. Or I was. Sort of." He's a little taken aback, as that is definitely not a description he would have used, but when he thinks about it, it sort of fits, even if it seems weird to call himself that. "But I was practicing forms for wielding a sword. ... to build up muscle memory and that sort of thing. "
no subject
"Rrrrenne noh do rrread tha-t. It noh go-t feel. ...Oooooh! Haow long yeu do? Yeu do teach?"
He has a thing for swords and other such weaponry. Anything he can handle without having to worry about that particular problem of "aiming a projectile".

Chirp. Sitting back on his rather large feet, Renne's skin gives off another little display, flashing a tiger-stripe of Hawaiian-ocean blue.
"Yeu go-t Teach-errr? May-bee if yeu noh go-t, we fin-d teach-errr."
At this point, the tips of his big ears flare up a bit in a robin's-egg blue. He's not got much, if anything, of value on him but he'd figure something out...a possible trade?
no subject
"No, I don't have a teacher, right now, but I'm not sure if there's anyone who teaches swordplay on this island, anyway..."
no subject
If it had been a tree for him to bite or otherwise take out frustrations, the type of tree wouldn't matter. He'd just find one and bite the thing to all hell. But his reason here is a little more than that, even if it might be a touch odd for him.
...Then again, he hadn't walked upright since -- Don't go there, blue idiot. Don't go there.

Sorry for the late!fail. /offers mochi
Now he's blushing again and occasionally, his skin gives off sapphire-blue spotted flashes. In a moment's decision, Renne slowly, almost shakily rises to stand on two feet.
No, he hasn't done that in a while.
When he reaches his full height of two-foot-seven (three feet counting his ears), and when he gains a semblance of balance, well...A hand/paw ends up slightly outstretched at about waist level.
"It be fohrrr...cayne."
psh, it's okay! ♥
"For cane...? Oh! Hmm..." Minato trails off, looking around at the trees. "You know, I am not sure. What sort of cane do you want? I'm sorry, I've never made or used one, so I'm not entirely sure what one looks for..."
Re: psh, it's okay! ♥
It's a little embarrassing explaining this but it is also quite logical to do so. In his own experience, the true-blind are rather uncommon, if not outright rare.

When he mentions 'here', a hand/paw moves to a spot two inches below his Lifestone -- that is, the rather ugly scar on his chest with the glowing thing half-in it.
"Rrrrenne say than-k yeu, fohrrr hell-p."
no subject
As he glances around at the trees again, wondering what type would be most what Renne wants, a dilemma occurs to him, and he voices it. "... I don't have anything to cut wood with, but maybe we can find a fallen branch that will work for now, and if need be, we can maybe find a saw or something later."
no subject
And out unfurls a nice set of talons from his fingertips. They're nothing magical or hokey, just very sharp talons.
no subject
"Well, let's see if we can find a tree with a good branch for it, then."
no subject
That 'rowr' is in a very joking tone, although he is serious about his talons being quite tough. Chittering, Renne nods and drops back down to crawl after this Minato fellow.
...although the back of his mind still wonders how and why anything would want to randomly turn folks into dragons.
no subject
"I.. think there's a branch in this one that might work?"
no subject
Chittering, Renne catches up rather well to Minato -- running face first into the tree in question. Shaking it off and sniffing the tree, Renne gives it a test bite. Hmm...Tough. Yet flexible. Crunch. Spitting the chunk of tree he'd bitten out, Renne gives a small smile and a nod.
"Is goo-d. Is strrron-g."
no subject
"Um... do you... need any help?"
He's not sure if Renne's just going to climb up the tree to find an appropriate branch or what, and especially in light of Renne just going ahead and biting the tree, Minato really has no expectations of what Renne will do.
no subject
Meaning how tall. While Renne's a good climber, he's not great with reach and the like. Crawling up the side of this particular tree, he inspects a low branch that (once again) he meets with his face.
He can cut it, sure, but getting it safely down is another story.
no subject
And with that, he reaches up to take hold of the branch, hoping Renne doesn't smack his face on it again - that looks like it hurts.
no subject
Luckily, there's no more face-smacking for the time being. Once he's sure his companion has the chosen branch held firm, Renne's teeth and talons get to work. Considering how he needs his cane shaped and such, this is a good bit more delicate than the straightforward chomping-a-chunk-off-of-a-tree of earlier.
no subject
Minato does his best to hold the branch steady while Renne works, watching curiously as the little blue fellow works.

"Eeee, we go-t!"
no subject
"Do you want me to break some of the offshoots off of the end, or will you do that yourself?"
no subject
He has a very weird concept of repaying someone, be it from a debt or as a matter of honour.

"Eeee, Rrrrenne s-till trry. Than-k yeu."
